Virginia, DC, Maryland and NY February 2016 bar exams are over

And with that, the February 2016 bar exam is over in this area for DC, Maryland, NY and Virginia. With this, NY and DC will be joining the growing number of jurisdictions to adopt the UBE starting with the July 2016 exam this summer (keep your eye open for an upcoming post on this topic soon). The exams were brutal and the weather pretty miserable but that’s about what you have to expect when it comes to the bar exam. DC didn’t disappoint with a dismal proctoring experience and near mutiny by the test takers over incorrect timing and other issues but everyone managed to survive more or less. Other jurisdictions were mostly smooth as usual. See below for the breakdown of subjects tested and some release date predictions:

Virginia:
Straightforward and fair as always, with some new areas tested this time around to make it interesting: Civ Pro, Corporations, Domestic Relations, Sales, Local Govt, Equity, Wills, Crim Pro, Fed Civ Pro.

DC:
MPTs were a little crazy, one was a combo demand letter and memo, the other a memo. Essays were a mixed bag as well, couple were straightforward, with Secured Transactions, Evidence, Agency/Partnership, con law and an interesting family law question. The more unusual question was a wills question that was interesting to say the least, definitely looking forward to the point sheet on that one.

NY: For their last hoorah it was a fairly typical mix that included contracts, corporations, torts, property, wills and trusts, NY practice, and domestic relations.

MBE was the same as the past 2 administrations with civ pro being straightforward and the rest of the subjects being a mix of easy and difficult. Not too much to say there.

Expecting DC and NY in early May. VA will be April 22nd. MD will be May 6.
