DC Bar Exam Results for February 2014 posted

The official pass list has been posted at the Courthouse in DC, and the list has also been posted online here. Overall pass rate was 47% with 58% first time takers passing. Believe it or not this is a higher rate than we have seen in past February bar exams so congratulations to everyone who passed!

Thank you Dwight!!!! Your blog has been there every step of the way – thank you so, so much!!!

Thanks for the post! I found out here first. Question, if anyone reads this: I received my pass letter and it says we won’t get sworn in until SEPTEMBER 12 (in four months)! I called and they confirmed this date was correct. Is there no other way to get sworn in sooner?

My pass letter stated my C&F application was still being reviewed and did not state a date for swearing in. I filed my app just before the ultimate filing deadline so that is not a surprise — no issues have been identified in prior bar apps, but still a bit of a shock because the app has been in there hands since late December. I guess I will see you guys in September. In the meantime, please keep us posted if/when you hear any differently re: swear in dates so that I can get my plane ticket and hotel accomodations locked down.

Can you provide any insight why the DC bar exam passage rate is so low compared to other jurisdictions? I haven’t seen any good sources on why this is.

There are several theories, I will write a post on this soon as this question always comes up. Long story short, many folks taking the DC bar exam have lower passing rates (non-first time takers, ESL, etc.).

Please advise !
I have missed 6.7 points, so failed. (passed MBE, failed MEE)
Should I request for re-grading?

How many points do you think are coverable by petition?

My 2nd essay score seems so low comparing to other essays.

Do you know any cases that the applicant passed on review and what points were covered?

I think it would be a good idea to request a re-grade although the typical points are only 2-3 so it will probably not push you into passing territory. There are usually a few people each exam that pass upon petition, but usually they missed passing by only a point or two.

Dwight,
I have been informed that the DC swearing in ceremony is not until September. Do you know if it is possible to be sworn in before then in open court or another method? The wait is a deal breaker bc most jobs discriminate aganist JDs so legal work is a must

You will need to call the Committee on Admissions. Between jurisdictions there are differences between being admitted to practice after passing the bar exam and being sworn in to appear before a court.

The location is announced to test takers when the instructions are mailed out and again when the admission tickets are mailed out, they will not post the location online. Typically it is at Catholic University in the summer and the Convention center in the Winter.

my swearing for DC in is on July 11th at 2:30 PM. Do you know why some people are getting a September date? Thanks!
